Introduction to the Academic Curriculum
The Faculty of Dentistry at Al-Turath University has developed a comprehensive academic curriculum designed to align with international standards of dental education while addressing the specific oral health needs of the Iraqi community. The curriculum integrates a balanced blend of basic medical sciences, preclinical training, and advanced clinical practice to ensure that graduates are fully prepared to meet professional, ethical, and societal responsibilities. Structured over five academic years, the program emphasizes a progressive learning approach: beginning with foundational biomedical sciences, advancing to preclinical laboratory simulations, and culminating in intensive clinical training across multiple dental specialties. Modern teaching methodologies, including problem-based learning, case analysis, simulation technology, and evidence-based practice, are employed to foster critical thinking and lifelong learning skills. The curriculum further promotes research engagement, community service, and professional development, reflecting the Faculty’s commitment to producing competent dentists who contribute to both local and global oral health advancements. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience, the program ensures that students graduate with the clinical competence, scientific foundation, and ethical framework required for safe and effective dental practice.
